‘The Daily’: What’s Going On With the U.S. and Russia?

One week ago, President Trump was accused of being a tool of President Vladimir V. Putin, filled with admiration for the Russian leader and eager to become his ally.

Now, just a week later, Mr. Trump says the relationship is at an all-time low. What is going on with the United States and Russia?

On today’s episode:

My colleague David E. Sanger joins us from Moscow, where he’s covering Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson’s first diplomatic trip to the region — a trip that coincides with a historically tense moment for these two countries.

Background reading:

• Mr. Sanger’s coverage of the strained meeting between Mr. Tillerson and Mr. Putin.

• Outside Moscow, the Trump administration took a sharper tone with Russia on Wednesday from Washington and New York, as well.
