Pakistan Reports 5,020 Fresh COVID-19 Cases & 81 Deaths In Past 24 Hours

Pakistan on Sunday has reported 5,020  fresh coronavirus cases and 81 deaths.

The third wave of the coronavirus continues to intensify its grip across the country!

During the past 24-hours, Pakistan’s total count of active cases was recorded at 58,581 and the positivity rate stood at 9.02 percent.

According to National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), during the past 24 hours, health facilities across the country conducted 50,186 coronavirus detection tests.

While as many as 613,058 have regained their health from the deadly virus so far with  3,367 in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, at 3,468, Pakistan sees the highest-ever number of coronavirus patients in critical care.

Region-wise coronavirus caseload is as follows:

  • Punjab: 2, 717 cases, 49 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 1,177  cases. 23 deaths
  • Islamabad: 714 cases, 5 deaths
  • AJK: 145 cases, 1 death
  • Balochistan: 55 cases
  • GB: 7 cases, 0 deaths

Prime Minister Imran Khan in his televised question and answer session on Sunday, once again urged people to wear masks and follow SOPs to curb the spread of the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

The PM said, “The third wave of coronavirus is way more dangerous than the first two waves and carelessness will lead to dire consequences.”

Interacting with the people via telephone calls, PM Imran Khan  said: “I will advise everyone to wear a mask.”

He added it is the government’s responsibility to protect people during the infection.

He cautioned people to wear masks in closed rooms where there is no ventilation and in buses and other means of transport.

PM added that the government is bringing reforms in the health sector and will provide health insurance to each and every person.

On Friday, seven more areas in the capital were sealed due to a sharp increase in the Covid-19 cases.

These areas are Bahria Town Phase II and III, Sooan Garden Block B, PWD Block C, Korang Town, Pakistan Town Phase I, National Police Foundation Block A, and DHA Phase II sector A, B, D, and E.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Mohammad Hamza Shafqaat said these localities were sealed as the cases were spreading fast among the residents. Commercial centres and activities in these areas are also closed, except for essential services, he added.
